TAG | 30 Beauty Questions ANSWERED

I saw this tag on a couple of blogs and I found it so useful to see which bloggers share similar desires for products or similar skin tone or similar style so I can follow their advice and no exactly how it would work for me! Plus I love these sorts of chattier blog posts, so I have done my version. It is a long one, so grab a cuppa and some biscuits, and get to know my beauty brain!

1. Do you remember your first beauty item?

Yes I do…it was a Natural Collection clear mascara. I wasn’t allowed to wear black mascara so I totally thought this did the same. Bless. Or it was a Claire’s silver liquid liner and I thought I was the coolest! When now I look back on it and cringe. Why Emily. Why!

2. Describe your perfect mascara!!

Right. So it had to be the blackest of Black, waterproof but it is a dream to remove. It makes my eyelashes super long and fluttery but gives the illusion of lots of eyelashes. Oh…and holds a curl all day. So yes. I am basically asking for the impossible!

3. What coverage if foundation do you like best?

I would say a buildable medium. I like it to look like skin, maybe a few freckles poking through, but still give the illusion that my skin is perfected. The one that allows me to achieve this is the NARS Sheer Glow Foundation and I wear mine in the shade Gobi.

4. What brand of cosmetics have you always wanted to try, but haven’t?

Definitely itCosmetics, their CC Cream sounds like all kinds of wonderful! And I’m desperate to get my hands on it! But I also really want to try some of HUDAbeauty, Illamasqua and Juvias Place!! Let’s be real…their are a lot of brands I’d love to try!

5. What is your favourite highstreet brand?

I would definitley say Maybelline or NYX. They have all round products that work throughout. And a lot of them have products I prefer over my more expensive ones! Plus Maybelline have some of the best mascaras I have tried!

6. Do you ever wear fake eyelashes?

I probably wear fake eyelashes about 3 times a year. I love the way they look but I think they can look a bit much, for me, Day to day. But I think they can really enhance a look sometimes. Normally I’ll do a look, and then take them off once I have taken a picture. When I do wear them, I feel super glamorous though! Flutter flutter.

7. Is there any makeup you can’t leave the house without?

Now I envy people that can’t leave the house without makeup. I want to think I can, but I would constantly be thinking someone is going to think I look like a goblin. I’m quite happy to stay around the house or show pictures of me with no makeup. And to leave the house I don’t need a full face, but a bit of concealer and brows and I’ll be good to go. I’m happy to go without mascara, as the faff of removing it sometimes doesn’t seem worth it if I’m going to only be out for an hour! Hopefully my confidence will improve in time and I’ll be able to leave barefaced one day!

8. What is your most cherished beauty product?

Probably my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder, it is just gorgeous and was well worth the money. I’m using it so sparingly! OR I would say my MAC or Makeup Geek palettes that I accumulated over time!

9. How often do you shop for makeup? Do you like to pick up an item at a time or get a whole load of goodies at a time?

I tend to put a little bit of money aside every time I get paid for makeup, and then when I have built up enough I tend to go a little bit crazy. Mainly on holidays or trips. Or I like to make a list of things I’ve researched that I think would be perfect for me and then purchase the, on the magical place aka BeautyBay!

10. Do you have a beauty budget or do you spend freely?

I tend to just save. My job is a has good weeks and bad weeks so,if I have a good week. A little bit of money goes in the pot, if I have a bad week, the pot gets neglected. But that is okay! And then when I have enough for a few treats…I go and purchase said treats!

11. Do you utilise coupons, rewards cards and sales when you shop for cosmetics?

Yes absolutely 100%!! I have rewards cards that I can load offers on so when I tak part in the offers, they load extra points on there. And then, I can put that towards items that normally wouldn’t be justified but then I can think…well…it’s not actual money…so. Why not! Sales are also my friends. Although I find Mainland Europe has much better sales than UK! Whereas the UK has better reward/point offers.

12. What type of product do you use the most of?

Definitley concealer or foundation, and then brow products because they are the ones that give me the most confidence. And with just those products alone, I deem myself acceptable to mingle around the general public!

13. Is there a brand you can’t stand?

I wouldn’t go as far as saying I can’t stand it, but I haven’t really found any products that have blown my mind. Max Factor. I’m not saying they are awful. But I am yet to find any products to wow me!

14. Do you avoid certain ingredients in products?

Not religiously, but if there is a product with a high alcohol content I will wear it only on occasion as it dries my skin out incredibly. Likewise I avoid expensive products with a high content of aqua (water) because it seems like it makes it less worth the money. But in terms of parabens and sulfates I don’t have as much knowledge on them, but maybe I should!

15. Do you have a favourite place to shop?

Debenhams is my favourite place. Not only do they have an excellent range of brands…but I have a rewards card. Which makes it almost justifiable…

16. Do you like trying new skincare? Or do you stick to a routine?

I’ve currently been really enjoying skin care at the minute. I used to struggle a little with my sensitive skin in my teens, and I would break out from certain products. And with my eczema prone skin I always stuck with my Epaderm. But I’m delving into the world of new skincare and I’m enjoying experimenting, especially now my less pubescent skin is allowing experimentation without breakouts!

17. Favourite bath or body brand?

Lush. Why? Because it is literally lush!! Dream cream, their shower jellies…they smell so good that they make me want rub them all over my body. They make me feel and smell like a goddess!

18. If you could only buy from one brand which would you choose?

I would either choose NYX or Urban Decay as their range of products I like most and could use everything from Foundation to lipstick and like every item, more or less.

19. What brand has the best packaging?

I would definitley say TooFaced packaging is the cutest! And in terms of the luxury and sleek packaging, Illamasqua!

20. Which celebrity has the best makeup?

I really like Claudia Winkleman or Alexa Chung. I love the grungy smokey eyes these ladies do! Ultimate makeup goals!

21. Do you join any make communities?

A couple on Facebook, but no big fancy ones!

22. Name your five favourite beauty gurus?

Tati Westbrook, Jeffree Star, The Anna Edit, FleurdeForce, NikkieTutorials.

If I was only allowed to watch these 5 people I would have the perfect mix of reviews, inspiration, tutorials, entertainment and humour and a whole lot of glitter!

23. Do you like multifunctional products like cheek and lip stains?

The only ones of those I like are the benefit ones (Posie, Lollipop, Cha-Cha) as they don’t feel sticky on the skin, and do stain, with great longevity!

24. Are you clumsy putting your makeup on?

It is all about refinery…and I always work on refining my skill! The clumsiness gets better the more you practice, as practice makes perfect!

25. Do you use a makeup base or primer for your eyes?

I was all about my MAC Soft Ochre Paint Pot, but I’ve  firmly got my mits on the Maybelline ones and am thoroughly enjoying using that!

26. How many hair products do you use on your hair a day?

Have you seen my hair? My guinea pig has more hair than me? Naturally my hair is curly when it is long, so with it short it is easier to tame. I use my VO5 fluff tamer for any frizz and my rework putty for any little curls that curl the wrong way!

27. What do you apply first, foundation or concealer?

Foundation, and then if any redness peeks through I can top it up with concealer. I feel like if I did it the other way, it would be too much product!

28. Do you consider taking any makeup classes?

I’d love to take some special effects classes one day!

29. What do you love most about makeup?

The confidence it gives me. And how fun and transforming it can be. You can go from plain Jane to va va voom. It is like wearing a new personality and character. A more confident shinier one.
