Product Wars | Highstreet Mascaras

Having short, stubby, straight eyelashes, I have always been on the hunt for a perfect mascara. Now my perfect mascara that I have ever found is the L’Oréal Lash Paradise Waterproof Mascara. This is how it makes my eyelashes look. It is bomb, and I don’t wear anything else when I have a day out. When i can justify how long it takes to remove it.

Waterproof mascaras are oil based, which is why they hold a curl. Think of your hair. If you have spent ages curling your hair, you apply oil over water to set it. Because if you apply water, if flattens it. Which is exactly what non waterproof (water based) mascaras do. So that’s the science!

But when I do my makeup looks or half a day with a nice makeup look, I still want gorgeous looking eyelashes without having the pitiful eyelashes I was given. So I thought I’d experiment with the drugstore mascaras I have been recommended and see which ones are the best! These are NOT waterproof, as I always prefer a waterproof mascara but they take ages to remove, and these I wanted to these to be easy to remove! But I wanted to see if they work well or maybe even better than my all time favourite L’Oreal Lash Paradise!

Rimmel Day 2 Night Mascara – I remember when everyone was obsessed with mascara in high school because it gave you super thick eyelashes! But then you could customise your own volume! So I thought that was a really unique feature! It has a tendency to get very clumpy if you go ham in this though! Very deep black formula. It holds the curl fairly well for a water based mascara! But it doesn’t do much for separation as it bunches the lashes together, therefore creating immense volume!

L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes Mascara – Now I can understand why they say it’s volume millions, look how many eyelashes this mascara gives me! The separation is fantastic, and it costs every single eyelash individually, giving me the look of so many more eyelashes! It is a lovely black formula, and very buildable. The top eyelashes had 2/3 coats and the lower lashes had one! I wouldn’t say it is the most voluminous mascara I’ve ever used, I think L’Oreal Paradise still has the best volume but still giving me individual lashes! But it is still a beautiful mascara! Very impressed! I feel like I have such long eyelashes with this!

Maybelline Total Temptation Mascara – Dare I say, I think this is the best mascara out of them all! And most likely my favourite! I was so shocked because it was brand new and I didn’t know what to expect! Maybelline The Falsies Waterproof was my favourite mascara for so long so really I should have expected great things. Maybelline knows mascaras! It provides a perfect amount of volume, separation and length! Single coat on both top and bottom eyelashes! And to be honest, it gave me my goal eyelashes! They were black and fluttery. I really like this mascara! It even holds a curl! Even though it’s water based!

Wet n Wild Mega Protein Mascara – This was my first investment of a water over oil based mascara! This is a very natural mascara, and is perfect if you want a no makeup makeup look but want your eyelashes black af but not too in your face. It does not give you mega intense beautiful eyelashes. It’s VERY subtle, but not everyday you want Disney princess flutters! What I love about this mascara are the properties in it, as it nourishes your eyelashes! So on days when I can get away with a slightly less dramatic eyelashes, I’ll wear this, just so I can get the benefits from it. And I do find it makes my eyelashes feel less dry and sparse!

No7 Lash Extender – I was pleasantly surprised with this mascara! I knew with it being the most expensive of them all, that it was going to be nice (or at least I hoped!). And it really was delicious! The length it gave me! Pwoar! For sure the longest my lashes have every looked. But so separated, like they aren’t bunched together giving me a total of 3 eyelashes. It states infinite lash, and believe me, it ain’t lying! Very black formula! And lovely for the lower lashes without it making a mess!

So all in all if you are looking for a bog standard mascara that is easy to remove and cheap and cheerful, Wet n Wild is yo girl! For length, go for the Maybelline and No7. For separation, go for L’Oréal. And for volume, GO EASY ON IT, but choose Rimmel! I hope this has helped the on your overwhelming mascara hunt!

I really enjoyed exploring these! And I’m so happy I’ve found a few gems! What’s you’re favourite drug store/highstreet mascara? Or would you rather splurge on a luxury one?

Thank you so much for reading! 💛
