Product Wars | Pore Minimising Primers

Right, let’s get something straight. Our skin, isn’t flat. Shocker. And we have texture. Moles, freckles, oh and the P word. PORES. God dammit. We aren’t all blessed with pore-less Barbie Skin, and if you are, GET OUT! I joke, you’re of course welcome. But please don’t rub our textured noses into your blessed skin! We may cry…and then our tears will fall into our pores making them shiny, it’ll be a mess! You won’t want to see it trust me!

Pores. They can sometimes look like delicate little bumps that make you look fresh and natural, like a real person. But they can also make you like like the moon, or as I like to call myself, crater face.

To make it fair. I wore the same foundation for all of them. Now I’m being a bit cheeky too. I reviewed the NYX Pore Filler fully before, so I’m using the same picture, ITS NOT LAZINESS! I promise. But it was such a good picture that I wanted to use it! The foundation I used for that one was the Estée Lauder Perfectionist Youth Infusing Makeup in (1N1). SO I thought to make it fair with the rest of them, I would use this for the others. Disclaimer, the texture of my skin is a lot worse in the other pictures. I’ve been ill with Glandular Fever, so blowing my nose has left my lips and around my nose very dry. And I have some massive spots on my chin due to my endometriosis causing hormonal outbreaks! So try to ignore that, these primers wouldn’t do anything to help that, so just focus on my craters please. Not a euphemism…

This is how I judge the primers. How it fills my pores. I can tell a nod great primer because even on my outer cheeks they are still visible. The ones around my nose rarely ever fill, but the ones on my cheeks can fill. As you’ll see. The smoothness; how velvety and soft my skin feels both on its own and under makeup. The longevity, when on a specific day I wore it did I think, ooo I have blush or my chin is still covered. As that’s the indication of longevity for me. My nose forever rubs off (not literally) so that will never be a good indication. And price. How much of da coin does it cost!

NYX Pore Filler – The texture of this one, well, without sounding rude, it kind of squirts out with a lot of air almost in a crumbly “bitty” texture. However when rubbing it all together the aerated texture discourses and it becomes a normal primer, maybe that’s because mine is running out no, but it doesn’t stop me from using it! It smooths the skin out lovely, and makes it feel very velvety. But in terms of Pore minimising, it doesn’t so that, it fills them. But with product. And not so full that it makes it invisible to the naked eye. It is simply making them visible.

The Ordinary High Adherence Silicone Primer – First of all, love the honesty that this product HAS SILICONE IN IT. Some people dislike that, but I don’t particularly mind as it does make my skin feel smooth! And having dehydrated skin, it can feel quite bumpy and in need of a lil summit summit! However, this really doesn’t fill my pores. Similarly to the NYX it fills them with the product and makes them appear, but half filled looking. If that makes sense. However this did smooth them out a little more than the NYX. And it did create a great layer for my makeup to adhere to, making it last that little bit longer. At the end of the day I had blush on, my chin looked untouched even! The coverage of my foundation had put budged Hurrah! And it costs pennies! And it’s like glue for your makeup! Not actually, please don’t use PVA as a primer!

Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser – this is by far the longest used primer I’ve used. I’ve been through two tubes of this, and I love the synthetic it makes my skin feel! It feels smooth and I do feel like is lessens the appearance of my pores! Not only does it fill it, but it helps enhance the texture around the pores too. And it mattifies a little bit too. This is for sure my favourite drug store primer! I do notice a difference in my makeup lasting too, as I do have blush and still have foundation on my chin!

Benefit POREfessional – Now this is the Cult favourite and very over hyped! And honestly, it works. But I find it works best in my outer cheeks, as the ones near my nose never work. But it’s nothing special. And isn’t the cheapest. And I do genuinely prefer my Maybelline Baby Skin Primer to this just because of the amount of product I need to use. I have to use a lot more POREfessional to get these results than I do Baby Skin. But it is a nice feeling primer. And if you can afford using more product, then it does feel more luxury than the Maybelline one and works exactly the same! I would recommend this one more if you have oilier skin! As I don’t think it works as well on my dry, dehydrated skin!

Cover FX Blurring Primer – Dis…dis is pweety! Like seriously, the texture of this is unlike anything else. It is like I’m rubbing silk onto my face! Turning it into all sorts of magical goodness! Very luxe feeling. It doesn’t hide my pores completely…but it does make them look a lot smaller! Which to me is like witchcraft! None of the others do that. They fill them, but they still look the same size on each size. Whereas this genuinely makes them more petite! Crazy! It rectified any texture issues on my face! It does make my Makeup last a long time too. And really melts into my skin and making my makeup adhere to it beautifully! Only downside, this is expensive. It’s £30. But if you feel it, you’ll understand. I’m not saying you need it, the Maybelline one does the job. But if you have the money and want to splurge on a decent primer, this is DIVINE!

SO all in all. The winner of them all is the Maybelline, it’s cheap, cheerful and performs well. But my favourite of them is the Cover FX, even if it costs a kidney. But the texture it gives is unlike any of the others! The one that isn’t even worth considering which is such a shame because I love NYX, is the NYX Pore Filler as it kind of enhances my Pore size…which isn’t good. Benefit, if you can afford it, is a decent primer, but you have to use a lot more product in comparison the the Maybelline! So cost effectively, is not only more expensive but you’ll get through it quicker! The Ordinary, for the price works best for longevity! So if you are not worried about pores but want a primer that will glue your foundation in place, then that’s a winner!

I hope you enjoyed this battle! What’s you’re favourite primer?

Thank you for reading! 💛
