First Impression | NYX Matte Lipsticks + Lip Swatches

I love a matte lip! And received one of these in my Cult Beauty goodie bag (Indie Flick)! And loved the formula but the shade was just far too bright for everyday use! But I liked the way it made my lips feel so I wanted to delve into some more “me” shades!

The packaging is sleek and lovely. I do like the gap in the middle where you can see the colour. Although it does make it look a bit cheap. But I don’t really mind, I’m buying these for the lipstick, not the packaging! The shade selection is awesome. From hot pinks, bright reds, deep plums and wearable nudes! So I picked up the shades that I felt the swatches told me would suit me. So I picked up Whipped Caviar, Sierra and Merlot!

The formula of these are very interesting for matte lipsticks! They are matte, but a very creamy matte! And the dry matter as the day goes on! But initially they look more creamy than anything! They become powdery when they set! But not in the slightest bit uncomfortable! I really enjoy the shades and wearing them as they feel nourishing but they don’t slip and slide all over the place! Even Merlot, the deep rose pink shade was fairly easy to wear, and I didn’t get it all over my face! You just need to press your lips on some tissue after application just so any excess is removed! I would even go as far as saying they are the most comfortable matte lipstick I have worn! They also wear down very naturally and don’t look iffy. Merlot looked a little more intense around the outside, but ombré in the centre! Same with Indie Flick. But the nudes just left a lovely nude stain on the lips once worn off!

Top to Bottom

Sierra – a beautiful peachy nude! Perfect for those of you who like warm toned lipsticks, blushes and eyeshadows. It accompanies anything warm, beautifully! It also enhances green and blue eyes wonderfully!

Merlot – the perfect red wine shade (duh, it’s called Merlot!). It is very flattering on the teeth, as it is more blue toned than yellow toned! It isn’t so deep that if it becomes the main focus, but isn’t so subtle that you don’t notice the lips in your look! Just a lovely somewhat statement lip!

Whipped Caviar – a beautiful rosewood nude! Flattering on all undertones as it is a very neutral shade! I have a more yellow undertone but I’ve seen it worn on a very pink undertone and it still complimented her very well!

Indie Flick – the brightest orange red shade I think possible to make into a lipstick! Like it is almost neon! I think it is a more flattering red on me than a blue toned red, just because of my yellow undertone!

All in all I really rate this lipsticks! One of the most comfortable matte lipstick formulas I have ever worn! Would recommend them to anyone who loves a matte lip but hates how drying they get!

I hope you enjoyed reading this post!

Thank you so much! 💛
